PETER Whittingham missed Cardiff City’s 1-1 draw against Vitoria de Setubal in Portugal suffering from a calf strain.
The former Aston Villa midfield player, who has just signed a new three-year contract with Cardiff, felt the muscle problem during training at City’s tour base in Sintra, near Lisbon.
“Whitts sat out as a precaution, nothing more,” said City boss Dave Jones. “He should be fine for the Algarve Cup matches this week.”
The Bluebirds squad have now moved from Lisbon to the Algarve, staying at the five-star Vale de Lobo resort.
Their next match is against Portuguese club Guimaraes in the Algarve Cup tomorrow evening and they complete the near two-week pre-season trip by playing Scottish champions Celtic on Friday.
Premiership club Middlesbrough are also competing in the Algarve Cup, but will not play the Bluebirds.
“Guimaraes are a good side and they will test us,” said manager Dave Jones. “We don’t come up against teams like them and Vitoria de Setubal, whose passing and movement are top-notch, unless we play Premiership opposition.
“The players are at around 80 per cent of match fitness right now and these next two matches will help us push on from there.
“We need to be at full pelt by the time we play Ajax in our home pre-season game – and we will go into the new Coca-Cola Championship season in good shape.”
Dutch club Ajax are at Ninian Park on Friday, August 1 (7.45pm).

After a week though, witnessing the lack of work-ethic of others on the team, I begin to feel disillusioned.
Here’s the thing: It’s not a high paying job and it doesn’t require a lot of skill. This job requires people who are willing to work, meet people, and keep shelves stocked and the store clean: Easy stuff. When one person on staff blows off the responsibilities, others who aren’t thrilled with the work slack off too. This may not seem like a big deal but sooner or later, the work still has to be done and someone will have to do it. The person who will do it will be a colleague. So how does it feel to be someone who slacks off and has others do the bulk of the work? I honestly don’t understand this lack of teamwork.
Working together as a team, doing the little things — again the little things make the big difference — helps everyone keep on top of the job duties and makes the work lighter for everyone.

Microwave coconut oil & beeswax in a glass container on high 30 seconds, and stir. Repeat heating in 10-second blocks until fully melted. Stir in almond oil, reheating if necessary. Transfer cream to glass jars while still warm – the lotion will thicken quickly. This lotion really absorbs well and leaves no residue on skin. This recipe makes two cups.
